Lighthouse Krynica Morska

Lighthouse Krynica Morska

The lighthouse is situated on top of a tall dune in the northeastern part of the town. For its construction, only the best construction materials of that time were used; the face bricks were delivered by the Matarnia brick works, the square granite stones for the base and the cornice were imported from Dresden, the lantern was made in Gdansk, and the optical appliances in Berlin. The lighthouse went into operation on 1 May 1895. In 1945, it was destroyed by explosives, and a new lighthouse was built only three years later – it was a makeshift construction on the roof of a vacation home. In 1951, the construction of a new lighthouse, situated next to the ruin of the old building, was finished. The new structure was built from concrete hollow bricks, which are held together by vertical steel reinforcement inlays. At its base, the lighthouse has a diameter of 6 meters (19.69 ft.), and 4.5 meters (14.76 ft.) at the top, and it is painted an intensive red, while the lantern is painted white. The lighthouse is open to visitors. Due to its location, each side offers an extraordinary view
